Early Evening Fire In Marda Loop

Just before 7:00pm this evening Calgary Fire crews were called to the 2000 block of 33avenue S.W. for reports of a building fire. The first arriving officer reported large volumes of smoke coming from a strip mall at that location and started evacuating an adjacent business. Fire crews gained entry and began a agressive fire attack and simultaneous search for possible occupants. A additional alarm was requested because of the large volume of smoke coming from several areas of the mall . The fire was brought under control and confined to the buisness of origin. No injuries were reported and damage to an adjacent buisness was minimal.130 people were originally evacuated as a precaution. 33rd avenue was closed for vehicle traffic during this event and has since been reopened .Fire Department personell remain on scene conducting a investigation.
