Damaged gas line forces evacuation of almost 400 workers

At approximately 11:15 this morning the Calgary Fire Department was called to the 500 block of Riverfront Avenue S.E. for reports of a damaged gas line. On arrival, it was determined that during excavation at the constructions site, a six inch gas line had been ruptured. Fire crews immediately evacuated the area and set up a safety perimeter. The LRT line between Bridgeland and City Hall was also temporarily halted as a safety precaution. ATCO Gas crews worked to clamp the gas line to commence repairs. Close to 400 construction workers were evacuated from the multi building construction site. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident and LRT traffic has been reinstated between Bridgeland and City Hall. All workers have been allowed back on site to continue construction.
