Carbon Monoxide Forces Evacuation of South West Apartments

Just before 10:00 pm this evening the Calgary Fire Department was called to the 500 block of 22 avenue S.W for an alarm system activation. First arriving crews entered the structure to determine the cause of the activation and immeadiately encountered elevated levels of carbon monoxide. As a result of these measured readings the decision to evacuate the residents was made and all 16 apartments were subsequently evacuated. One infant was transported to an area hospital by Alberta Health Services as a precautionary measure and no other injuries are reported. City Transit has provided a transit bus for temporary shelter of the displaced residents while Calgary Fire crews continue the investigation into cause. 22 avenue S.W. remains closed to vehicle traffic at this time.
