Calgary Firefighters Tackle House Fire in Rundle

Calgary firefighters were called out this evening around 0830pm for a report of a house fire on Rundlemere Road NE. First arriving crews were met by flames shooting out of the front windows on the main floor of the two story single family home. Firefighters entered the home with an aggressive interior attack to control the growing fire. Supported with ventilation fans and a backup team of firefighters the teams were able to quickly bring the fire under control. The fire had found its way into the walls and the ceiling between floors. Extensive overhaul will be required to insure all hot spots are out. A family of five were home at the time of the fire, two adults and three children aged 11 and under. Initially they attempted to extinguish the fire on their own but it quickly grew and drove them from the home. Smoke detectors however did raise the alarm for the family. The Fire Department advises that in  similar situations, exiting the home via a planned and practiced escape route and gathering at a pre- arranged muster point is the first priority followed by a call to 911. In this case all escaped the fire without injury. Crews will remain on scene through out the night to watch for hot spots. The family is insured and will be out of the home for some time.
