Calgary Firefighters Respond to Lightning Strikes in McKenzie Towne

This evening at approximately 6:00, the Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of lightning strikes in the south east community of McKenzie Towne.  911 dispatchers received calls from three concerned home owners stating that lightning may have struck their homes.  Fire crews investigated and confirmed lighting strikes in all three.  In one home, firefighters found lighting had struck a roof mounted fan vent causing the fan motor to melt. In the second home, the electrical current created by the lighting strike caused a light fixture within the home to arch and trip an electrical breaker.  The third home suffered only minor damage to the roof.  There were no injuries and all three families were allowed back into their homes.
