Calgary firefighters called to southwest high rise fire

At approximately 7:20 pm on Thursday evening November 11, Calgary fire crews responded to a residential high rise at 1st St and 10th Ave SW for reports of a building fire. On arrival, flames and smoke could be seen coming from a balcony on the nineteenth floor.

Firefighters quickly accessed the suite and extinguished the fire which was mainly contained to the exterior. Additional apparatus and fire crews were called in on a 3rd Alarm for support due to the size of the building and number of occupants residing there.

Calgary Police Officers provided support with traffic redirection and AHS was on standby for any possible injuries.

No injuries to citizens were reported as a result of this fire. All residents have been allowed back into their apartments.

The fire is out at this time and a Fire Investigator is determining the cause.
