Calgary Fire responds to building explosion in Bridgeland

At approximately 9:40 on Tuesday morning, September 07, 9-1-1 received reports of an explosion at the corner of 7A street and 1 Avenue N.E. On arrival, fire crews found a house that had sustained significant structural damage as well as a smell of natural gas in the immediate area.

Six people were in the building at the time of the explosion however they all escaped without injury. Firefighters shut off the gas line and secured the area. The Calgary Fire Department Technical Rescue Team also responded to the scene. Once they determined they could safely enter, they searched for anybody else that may still have been inside. After a thorough search of the entire building, nobody else was found.

No injuries have been reported thus far and no other buildings have been evacuated at this time. A fire investigator is also attending the scene to determine the origin and cause of this explosion.
