Calgary Fire Extricate Driver from Single Vehicle Collision

Earlier this evening the Calgary Fire Department extricated the driver from  a single vehicle collision on Highway 8 east of 69 street S.W.. Fire crews were called to the scene shortly before 6:00 p.m.. this evening when a sport  utility vehicle  left the road surface and struck a large wooden power pole shearing the pole off and causing significant damage to the vehicle. The sole female occupant was subsequently transported to an area hospital in serious condition by on scene Alberta Health Services personnel. No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported. Highway 8 remains open. Calgarians are urged to drive with caution as the road surface has become extremely slippery with the recent snow.
