Calgary Fire Department divers search south east pond after SUV plunges in

At approximately 7:30 this morning, 911 received calls regarding a white SUV which had lost control and plunged into Inverness Pond at McKenzie Towne Link and Promenade Way S.E. The male driver of the vehicle was reported to have made it to shore, however, he did not remain on scene and was therefore unable to verify the number of occupants in the vehicle.

Calgary Fire Department aquatic team divers were immediately called to perform a search of the vehicle and surrounding underwater area for any other possible patients. The vehicle was submerged in approximately 15 feet of water with very poor visibility. No other individuals were found in or near the SUV by CFD divers.

Fire crews are using air bags to raise the vehicle so that it can be removed from the pond. A boom has been placed on the water to contain any possible fluids which may be leaking from the vehicle. A CFD hazardous materials team is on scene to assist with any clean up.

Calgary Police are on scene and investigating this incident.
