Calgary Fire Department Urges Caution this Weekend

The Calgary Fire Department has responded to several calls today regarding people on or near ice along the city’s waterways, ponds and sloughs. The Calgary Fire Department would like to emphasize to citizens the dangers of walking on or near ice. Calgarian’s are asked to stay off of all ice that is not designed and maintained for recreational use. Keep a safe distance from river banks and lake shores. Make a point of cautioning your children about the dangers of ice and the temperature of the water. As we approach spring, and the temperatures climb, the ice will become more and more unpredictable.  Dont take the chance.

 

Ice safety tips:

- Keep a safe distance from river banks and lake shores;

- If you witness an ice accident, stay back and call 9-1-1 for help;

- Keep pets away from ice. If you pet does venture onto the ice and falls through, call 9-1-1. Do not attempt to rescue your pet yourself;

- If you see someone on the ice, call 9-1-1.
