Calgary Fire Department technical rescue team extricate worker after fall at north west construction site

At approximately 10:40 a.m. on Friday March 15, Calgary fire's technical rescue team was called to a construction site at the 900 block of 25 Avenue N.W for reports of a fall. A worker on site fell off a foundation wall, landing approximately 10 feet below in the basement and striking his head.  The male was conscious and alert when fire crews arrived on scene.

Due to the significant potential for head, neck and back injuries,  C-spine protocol was used as firefighters and paramedics secured the patient into a stretcher. Fire and EMS continually monitored his condition and he was then carefully lifted by an aerial truck out of the basement. EMS transported the patient to an area hospital. The male was conscious throughout the duration of the rescue.

Occupational Health and Safety have been called to the scene to investigate the incident.
