Calgary Fire Department tackles Attic fire in Deer Run

Calgary Firefighters were called out this evening to investigate smoke in a home located on the 14700 block of Deer Ridge Drive se. just after 10:30. Occupants told the crew that an electrical breaker had tripped and they began investigating the cause. They noticed a haze of smoke in their attic and called in the Firefighters. Upon investigation a small smoldering fire was discovered. The fire had spread through an area of insulation which had to be removed from the ceiling. This involved pulling down the ceiling and removing all the insulation from that section of the roof. By this procedure firefighters could insure the fire had not traveled through hidden areas to flare up at a later time. The occupants, two adults and a child will relocate until the damage has been repaired. The cause is under investigation but an issue with the fireplace is suspected. No injuries were reported.
