Calgary Fire Department responses to early morning house fire in Douglasdale

At approximately five o’clock this morning the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 500 block of Douglas Glen Point SE. Due to the large volume of visible smoke and flames a second alarm was called prior to the first arriving apparatus. Upon arrival, the crews were faced with a rapidly escalating event, which consisted of a fully involved two story single family dwelling as well as smoke and flames encroaching on the two adjacent houses. The crews quickly determined that all the people from the involved homes were accounted for and started an aggressive attack on the fire. It was readily apparent that the house of origin would be a total loss and redirected their efforts to protecting the adjacent homes which were in danger of also becoming fully involved.  Whilst this was occurring, Calgary Police Services assisted Incident Command by helping to evacuate residences living downwind from the fire as well as controlled access to the scene. One person was treated and released for a non fire related issue by EMS. There were no other injuries. Fire crews are still on scene dealing with hot spots. Once the area is deemed safe the investigation into the cause of the fire will begin.
