Calgary Fire Department responds to two alarm house fire in Riverbend

At approximately 11:15 the Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of a structure fire in the 2400 block of Riverstone Rd. SE. Prior to arriving first in crews called a second alarm due to the amount of smoke and flame present.

On arrival, fire crews encountered one 2 story home fully involved and a second 2 story exposed home mostly involved in flames. Crews started an aggressive defensive attack to protect the exposed homes on either side of the initially affected structures. Both initial homes were destroyed by the fire and damage done to the exposed neighboring homes.

4 residents have been displaced by the fire, one resident received minor burns to his hand and was treated on scene by Alberta Health Services (AHS). Another resident suffering from smoke inhalation is being transported by AHS for precaution. Calgary Police Services (CPS) were also on scene to assist with citizen safety and to control vehicle traffic in the area.

Calgary Transit (CT) were dispatched to provide temporary shelter for the residents affected. ATCO and ENMAX were on scene to control the flow of utilities.

Calgary Fire Department Investigators are currently on scene working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
