Calgary Fire Department responds to two alarm house fire in Kincora

At approximately 4:20 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a house fire on Kincora Drive NW. On arrival, fire crews were met with flames from two homes and immediately called a second alarm. Firefighters initiated an aggressive exterior attack with elevated aerial water towers. Firefighters also used high volume fans to pressurize adjacent homes and minimize possible smoke damage. Initial reports indicated that all occupants had self evacuated safely from the two homes. On further investigation, it was later learned that one occupant had re-entered the home to retrieve a personal possession. This occupant was treated by Alberta Health Services and transported to hospital.  The fire was successfully contained to the two initial homes. Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigators are on scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind citizens that in the event of a fire, occupants should immediately evacuate and call 911 from a safe location. Never re-enter a structure once evacuated. Fire doubles in size approximately every 30 seconds and once alerted to a fire by a smoke alarm, a family has three minutes or less to safely evacuate. Ensure that your home has working and maintained smoke alarms on every level. Practice your home escape plan twice per year.
