Calgary Fire Department responds to two alarm fire on Hubalta Road S.E.

At approximately 7:10 this morning the Calgary Fire Department was called out to a two alarm fire at the 4600 block of Hubalta Road S.E. A contractor arriving to work noticed what appeared to be flames through a balcony window of a 12-unit, 3-storey residential building. He immediately called 911 and then went though the building alerting residents of the fire. Upon arrival, fire crews observed a fully involved fire on the balcony on the second floor which was quickly extending to the third floor. A second alarm was immediately called. The two buildings on site were evacuated of 60 residents. Two cats were also rescued. Fire crews set up two aerials with master streams and the Bronto raised platform was also called for support. The fire was brought under control before 10:30 this morning. Damage to the north side of the building is extensive, but no injuries reported. Cause of the fire has yet to be determined and Fire Investigators are on scene.
