Calgary Fire Department responds to S.W. for two alarm fire

At approximately 10:45 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department received calls of smoke coming from an 8 unit residential building on Southampton Drive S.W. The first arriving crew called for a second alarm due to the amount of smoke and flames showing. When firefighters attempted a search and interior fire attack, serious structural issues within the unit caused the fire crew to change tactics and mount an aggressive exterior attack. Aerials were used to put water on the building from above as the fire had vented through the roof. Fire did extend into a neighbouring unit causing some damage. The unit where the fire originated sustained significant damage. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported as a result of this fire. Two dogs were removed during the search and evacuation of remaining units in the building. Calgary Fire Investigators are on scene to determine origin and cause.
