Calgary Fire Department responds to south east house fire

Shortly before 4:30 this afternoon, Calgary fire crews were called to the 1100 block of 35th Street S.E. for reports of a house fire. On arrival, smoke and flames were visible to firefighters from the exterior. The homeowner, a woman in her early nineties, self evacuated safely without injuries. Fire crews entered the home through the back door and quickly extinguished the fire. There is fire damage to the kitchen and significant smoke damage throughout the home. The residence will not be inhabitable for some time. No injuries were reported as a result of this fire and Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigators are on scene to determine origin and cause.
