Calgary Fire Department responds to seniors complex for elevated CO levels

Just after 5:00 this morning, Calgary fire crews were called to an assisted living facility at the 2900 block of 26th Avenue S.E. for reports of carbon monoxide in the building. On arrival, firefighters founds levels of up to 45 parts per million and quickly relocated 60 residents to an unaffected area of the building. The cause of the CO was found to be a roof top make-up air vent unit. Fire crews ventilated the building, bringing CO levels back down to zero. No injuries were reported however one resident was assessed by AHS. Residents were allowed back into their rooms after several hours. The make-up air unit responsible has been shut down until repairs are made.
