Calgary Fire Department responds to scrap metal fire in the Southeast

At approximately 1:00 this afternoon the Calgary Fire Department was called to Ogden Road and Bonnybrook Road SE for reports of a rubbish fire.  Upon arrival, fire crews encountered thick black smoke venting from a large pile of recycled metal.  Crews utilized aerial water towers, supplying large volumes of water, to quickly knock down the smoldering fire.  Firefighters confirmed that the burning pile of debris was not comprised of the previously experienced “Industrial Fluff”, but was mainly recycled home appliances.  Investigators are currently on scene.  There were no reports of injury.  Traffic in the area is unaffected at this time.
