Calgary Fire Department Responds to Residential Fire in the S.W.

At approximately 5:15 p.m. the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 1500 block of 33 Avenue S.W. for reports of a building fire.  Upon arrival crews discovered smoke showing from a main floor window of a single story duplex.  One male and one female occupant had self evacuated the residence.  Crews extinguished the fire located on the main floor of the duplex and searched both sides of the duplex.   No other occupants or pets were found.  Crews transferred the care of the male occupant to EMS.  Fire damage was contained to the involved unit.  The affected residents will not be returning to their units.   Crews are remaining on scene checking for hot spots.  Traffic is being rerouted as 33 Avenue S. W. is closed to traffic in both directions.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
