Calgary Fire Department Responds to Residential Fire in N.W.

At Approximately 9:10 a.m. today the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 200 block of 9 Street N.W. after receiving reports of smoke in a multi-family residence. Upon arrival fire crews detected smoke and fire coming from the attic area of a 2 ½ storey residential building. Firefighters entered the building and quickly knocked down the fire. A second alarm was called for as additional resources were required. A total of six people made it safely out of the building. Fortunately no one was injured. Fire crews also conducted a search of the residence to ensure no one else was inside. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the attic area, but remain on scene to monitor any potential hot spots. There was extensive damage to the attic area and some minor smoke and water damage in other areas of the multi-family residence. When fire crews entered the building they took precautionary measures to protect furniture from water damage and have also been assisting residents to remove important items. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
