Calgary Fire Department responds to rail engine fire in south east

At approximately 3:15 this afternoon, Calgary fire crews were called to a rail yard at 68th Street and 114th Avenue S.E. for reports of an engine fire on a moving train. On arrival, fire crews found a fully involved rail engine. Rail employees uncoupled the engine from the rest of the train to limit spread of the fire. Firefighters immediately applied water and foam to extinguish the fire. Fire crews removed panels to access the engine compartment where the fire originated. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire and damage to the rail engine is significant. Rail company investigators are on scene to determine cause and damage estimates.
