Calgary Fire Department responds to northeast for a kitchen fire

The Calgary Fire Department was called to the 200 block of Laguna Circle N.E. at approximately 1:00 this afternoon for a kitchen fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a fire in the kitchen of the single family residence. Flames had extended into the cabinets however fire crews successfully extinguished the fire, limiting damage. The rest of the home sustained some smoke damage. Two people were home at the time of the fire and managed to escape without injuries.  Fire Investigators are currently on scene.

 

The Calgary Fire Department recommends the following safety tips:

 

-          Do not leave cooking unattended.

-          Keep anything that can catch fire away from your stovetop.

-          Keep children and pets away from the stove.

-          Always keep a lid nearby when cooking to smother a fire by sliding the lid over the pan. Turn off the burner and do not move the pan.

-          Never pour water on a grease fire.

-          In case of an oven fire, turn off the oven and keep the door closed till cool.

-          When in doubt, get out and call 911 to report a fire from a safe phone (outside or a neighbour’s house).
