Calgary Fire Department Responds to Multiple House Fires

At approximately 9:00 this morning the Calgary Fire Department responded to a 911 call for smoke coming from a house in the 1100 block of 120 avenue in the southeast community of Bonavista. On arrival, crews found a two story single family residential occupancy with smoke showing. Firefighters forced entry to the home and were met with heavy smoke and heat. Crews located the seat of the fire in the kitchen area and quickly brought it under control. A search of the occupancy found no one home, and one cat and one dog were rescued, uninjured. The fire did extensive damage to the main floor of the home, and there was smoke damage throughout. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

At approximately 2:00 this afternoon, fire crews were called to Cranberry Close in the southeast community of Cranston for reports of a house on fire. On arrival, the crews found a two story detached single family home with smoke and flames showing on the outside and roof area of the attached garage. Firefighters moved quickly to attack the fire from the outside, before moving into the garage and extinguishing the fire. One occupant was home at the time and was able to exit the property safely. The fire and smoke damage was limited to the front drive attached garage, and there was minor heat damage to a neighboring home. There were no injuries at the scene, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire crews, investigators and arson will be on scene for the next several hours.
