Calgary Fire Department responds to manufacturing plant in the southeast for building fire

Shortly before 4:00 this afternoon, Calgary fire crews were called to a roofing shingle manufacturing facility at the 1600 block of 42nd Avenue S.E. for reports of a building fire. On arrival, firefighters saw no visible signs of smoke or fire from the outside of the building however once inside, crews investigated and found the origin of the fire to be a water purification unit on the third floor. Employees at the location tried to contain the fire with on site fire hoses but were quickly evacuated so that firefighters in full personal protective equipment could extinguish the blaze safely. A Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigator has been called to the scene to determine cause of the fire.
