Calgary Fire Department responds to large refrigeration leak in High-rise

At 12:30 this afternoon the Calgary Fire Department responded to Hazardous Material call at  7th Ave and 7 St. SW. Upon arrival, crews discovered that a refrigeration compressor in a ten story building had malfunctioned which resulted in a leak. As a precaution approximately 200 occupants of the building were evacuated. At the present time, the crews are utilizing the building ventilation system to remove the gas. Once the building is free of the refrigerant, the occupants will be allowed to re-enter the building. There were no injuries and at the present time there is minimal impact on the traffic in the affected area.
