Calgary Fire Department responds to house fire in south east

Just before 10:30 this morning, fire crews were called to the 2200 block of 39th Street S.E. for reports of a house fire. The female resident of the home had quickly evacuated to her neighbour's house and 911 was called from there. Upon arrival, firefighters fought and extinguished the fire which was contained to one of the bedrooms. Three dogs and four cats were in the home at the time of the fire. Fire crews rescued all seven animals but tragically, despite attempts at resuscitation by firefighters, one dog and one cat succumbed to their injuries. The room of origin sustained significant fire damage and the rest of the home sustained smoke damage. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported as a result of this fire. Calgary Fire Department Investigators are on scene to determine cause.
