Calgary Fire Department Responds to House Fire in NW

 

At approximately 5:40 p.m. the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 100 block of Hampshire Circle N. W. for reports of a house fire.  Upon arrival crews discovered smoke showing from a two storey, detached single family home.  A mother and her preteen daughter, who were home at the time, had self evacuated.  Their care was transferred to EMS.  Fire crews safely rescued two dogs from the residence.  As a precaution two occupants from an adjacent house were evacuated.  They were later allowed to return to their home.  A kitchen fire had extended into the attic area of the home, causing extensive damage to the attic and roof area.  The four residents of the home will not be returning tonight and have made alternative accommodation arrangements.  Crews are currently extinguishing hot spots and utilizing salvage covers to protect the interior furnishings.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
