Calgary Fire Department Responds to House Fire in Erin Woods

At approximately 9:00 this evening, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Erin Grove SE.  Upon arrival, fire crews were faced with a fully involved 2 story home, with flames venting from the roof structure.  Firefighters immediately set up water streams to knock down the fire on the exterior of the house and to protect the adjacent homes from heat and fire spread.  The fire melted the gas meter on the source home, but crews allowed the gas to burn in a controlled flare rather extinguish those flames which would have caused an uncontrolled gas leak.  ATCO gas was on scene to dig up the gas line and cut off the gas supply, extinguishing the flames.   The Calgary Police Service also provided assistance by evacuating homes in the immediate proximity to house of the fire origin.  Three adults were at home at the time of the incident and self-evacuated prior to the fire department arrival on scene.  No injuries were reported at the incident and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
