Calgary Fire Department Responds to House Fire in Bonavista

At approximately 12:00 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 500 block of Lake Bonavista Drive SE.  Fire crews were met with smoke and visible flames from the front of the house and a vehicle in the driveway.   Firefighters initiated an aggressive exterior attack to quickly knock down the fire.  The west side adjacent home next to the source house received exterior fire damage.  Fire crews opened part of the roof structure on that adjacent home to ensure there was no further fire spread.  Firefighters also used high capacity fans on both adjacent residences to pressurize the structures, a technique which keeps smoke out of the dwellings.  The hazardous materials technical team was utilized to deal with materials in the garage of the house of fire origin.  Occupants of the source home self evacuated prior to firefighters arriving on scene. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
