Calgary Fire Department responds to grass fire at Calgary Zoo

At approximately 2:50 this afternoon, Calgary fire crews were called to the north east part of the Calgary Zoo near Memorial Drive and Deerfoot Trail SE for reports of a grass fire. The fire was called in by a driver headed westbound on Memorial Drive.Upon arrival, firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. The fire crew then discovered a staff member who had sustained some burns while attempting to extinguish the fire prior to CFD arrival. The staff member was taken to receive treatment from on scene AHS. Although not yet confirmed, this fire may be connected to the combustion of "poplar tree fluff" and an improperly disposed of cigarette adjacent to a pathway.
