Calgary Fire Department responds to garage fire in Saddle Ridge

At approximately 2:45 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire in the 200 block of Saddlemead Dr. NE. The fire was confirmed en-route and upon arrival, fire crews were faced with a garage on fire that was threatening surrounding homes.

Crews quickly knocked down the flames on the garage preventing further fire spread, but not before extensive damage to the garage prior to firefighters arriving on scene. There were no vehicles in the garage at the time of the incident. There was minor exterior damage from heat exposure to the source address home and a neighboring house. A mother and 5 children self-evacuated from the source home prior to firefighters arriving. No one was home at the damaged neighboring home when crews performed incident evacuation procedures.

Crews remain on scene conducting overhaul and salvage operations. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
