Calgary Fire Department Responds To Fire In Varsity

 

This morning at approximately 5:30 a.m. the Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire on Vauxhall Crescent in the North West community of Varsity . Upon arrival, fire crews observed smoke stained windows and flames coming from the dryer vent. A second alarm was called for additional resources. Firefighters entered the home, commencing a primary search and interior fire attack. However, due to safety concerns, crews had to withdraw and fight the fire defensively from the exterior. One male occupant made it out of the home safely, but a female occupant did not. A smoke alarm did alert the male occupant to evacuate the home. It is not known what caused the fire but the Calgary Police Service Arson Unit and Calgary Fire Department Investigators are working jointly to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
