Calgary Fire Department responds to fire at south east roofing facility

At approximately 1:00 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a roofing manufacturing facility at the 1600 block of 42nd Avenue S.E.for multiple reports of a fire. On arrival, fire crews saw heavy smoke and flames coming from a large container used to store asphalt. A neighbouring fiberboard business safely evacuated 12 employees. Fire crews quickly brought the fire under control and the CFD Hazardous Materials team was on scene to assess risk and impact of the materials involved in the fire. No injuries were reported and the evacuated employees were allowed back into the neighbouring business once air quality was assessed for safety. The fire is currently under control and CFD Fire Investigators are on scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
