Calgary Fire Department responds to fire at Calgary Metals

CALGARY FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO FIRE AT CALGARY METALS

At approximately 6 a.m. this morning the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of a structure fire in the 3400 block of Ogden Rd. Calgary 911 received a phone call from an on scene worker with reports of visible flames and smoke.

Fire crews arrived to visible flames and smoke showing, they quickly determined that the fire had not extended into the structure and worked to protect all exposed buildings. The fire was brought under control and with the assistance of on scene workers, the recycling materials were moved with heavy equipment to allow fire crews to extinguish the fire as efficiently as possible. CFD Hazardous Materials were on scene to determine the air quality and monitor the smoke plume. An evacuation plan was put in place in case the air quality and smoke plume threatened commercial and residential occupants, but was not needed.

There were 2 workers on scene at the time of the fire, both were not affected by the fire.

CN Rail temporarily stopped movement on their rail line directly East of the scene until the fire was extinguished. Alberta Environment was also on scene to monitor air quality and the collection of water run off from the fire.

The Calgary Fire Department Fire Investigator was on scene to determine the origin and Cause.
