Calgary Fire Department responds to early morning apartment fire

Reports of an apartment fire on 11 St and 17 Ave SW were received by the Calgary Fire Department at approximately 05:30 this morning. The Fire crews arrived to find smoke coming from a basement suite of a three story walk up apartment. By utilizing large volume electric fans, the crews were able to pressurize the building, which helped contain the fire to the basement suite. The fire was extinguished by a two pronged attack through the front door as well as the living room window.  The fire was contained to the suite of origin which sustained considerable smoke damage.  Crews are still on scene overhauling the apartment to ensure that there was no extension. As a precaution, the occupants of the other suites have been evacuated and will be allowed to return to their apartment once the air quality has been confirmed. The investigation into the cause will begin once the scene is safe. There were no injuries.
