This afternoon, just before 2:15, a contractor accidentally damaged a gas line while installing an underground sprinkler system at the 300 block of 94th Avenue S.E. Upon arrival fire crews assessed wind direction and speed to determine risk to the school and surrounding homes. Atco Gas quickly arrived on scene and shut off the flow of gas to the affected line. Due to the location of the damaged line and wind direction, the gas had dissipated by the time it reached the end of the field. Firefighters continually monitored the air in the school and nearby homes for gas levels. Neither the school nor homes in the area needed to be evacuated and no injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
