Calgary Fire Department responds to damaged gas line in north east

 

 

 

At approximately 11:20 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 600 block of 1st Street N.E. for a damaged gas line due to excavation. On arrival, fire crews evacuated a nearby building as a precaution resulting in the temporary displacement of several dozen people. No injuries were reported as a result of the damaged gas line. ATCO Gas is on scene and has successfully shut off the gas line and will start repairs immediately. The roads east of Centre Street to 2nd Street N.E. between 5th and 7th Avenue N.E. are currently closed to traffic. No residences in the area were evacuated. The one building evacuated is expected to be reoccupied shortly.
