Calgary Fire Department responds to damaged gas line close to south west school

At approximately 12:20 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department was called to the 4000 block of Garrison Blvd S.W. for reports of a damaged gas line. Upon arrival, fire crews evacuated a school and over 10 homes as a precautionary measure. Firefighters monitored the air continuously for safety and Atco Gas arrived on scene, clamping the line within the hour. Approximately 20 people were evacuated, majority of which were teachers at the school as very few residents were home at the time. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident and fire crews ensured the school and residences were safe before allowing re-entry. Traffic has been temporarily affected in the area.
