Calgary Fire Department Responds to Condominium Fire

At approximately 11:15 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a 911 call for fire in the 1400 block of Ranchlands Way in northwest Calgary. On arrival, firefighters were met with large volumes of smoke and flame issuing from a main floor window in a 7 unit, multifamily occupancy. One occupant had self-evacuated and was suffering from serious burns. On scene crews treated the occupant and they were transported to hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Firefighters attacked the fire form the front yard, before moving into the interior. The fire was quickly brought under control and contained to the unit of origin. The adjacent unit suffered only minor smoke damage, and occupants were evacuated as a precaution. A search of the occupancy by firefighters ensured that all occupants were out safely and damage to the unit of origin was extensive.

Calgary Police Service assisted on scene crews by ensuring a safe perimeter, and ATCO and Enmax were on scene assisting with utilities. There were no other injuries at the scene, and the cause of the fire is under investigation and firefighters remain on scene.
