Calgary Fire Department responds to collision between gravel truck and building in the south west

 

This afternoon at approximately 1:40, Calgary fire crews including the Heavy Rescue Team were called to a motor vehicle collision at Sirocco Drive and 17th Ave S.W. where a gravel truck lost control. The truck was east bound on 17th Avenue when the driver lost control, colliding with several vehicles before going down an embankment and striking a strip mall. Firefighters evacuated the four businesses and over 20 people, until the safety and structural integrity of the building could be established. One person was transferred to EMS for patient care however no other injuries were reported. 17th Avenue east at Sirocco Drive is currently closed while Calgary Police investigate.
