Calgary Fire Department Responds to Britannia House Fire

The Calgary Fire Department responded to the 4200 block of Elbow drive S. W. shortly after 4;00 p.m this afternoon for reports of a house fire. First arriving crews reported a well developed fire in a single family dwelling at this location. Due to the advanced stage of the fire the decision to not launch an interior fire attack was made. Crews were able to gain control of the fire by applying water from exterior positions and the fire was contained to the source building with no extension to adjacent homes. Alberta Health Services transported a neighboring resident to an area hospital after he inhaled smoke while he was alerting neighbors to the fire. The home was unoccupied and no further injuries were reported. Traffic in the area was temporarily rerouted during the event but has since returned to normal traffic patterns. Fire investigators and the Arson unit remain on scene conducting their investigation.
