Calgary Fire Department responds to a second alarm building fire.

At approximately 08:30 this morning the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of a building fire on 17 Ave and 37 St SW. Upon arrival crews were confronted with a single story commercial structure with heavy smoke and flames coming from the end unit. Crews quickly confirmed that all occupants were accounted for and then began an aggressive interior attack on the involved unit. A second alarm was sounded which provides the Incident Commander with additional apparatus and manpower. Although the fire was contained to the unit of origin the remaining stores were evacuated and the people were housed on a City transit bus. One person suffering from minor burns and smoke inhalation was transported by EMS.  The CFD would like to remind the citizens of Calgary that upon the discovery of a fire, raise the alarm, immediately evacuate the building and then call 911. The -30 degree temperature did not have a direct impact on extinguishing the fire, but did present so problems with picking up the wet hose etc. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
