Calgary Fire Department responds to a kitchen fire in Brentwood

At approx. 4:30 this afternoon, Fire crews responded to a kitchen fire on Benton Dr. NW. Upon arrival crews encountered heavy smoke coming from a single family dwelling. The fire was located in the kitchen and it was quickly brought under control.  While this was occurring a second team performing a search of the residence located a female occupant, she was removed from the house and turned over to EMS. As the search continued three cats were located and removed from the home, none of the cats survived the fire. At this time the Fire Department is over hauling the house looking for hot spots as well as establishing a fire watch. Once the scene is considered safe the fire investigation will begin.
