Calgary Fire Department Responds to a Fire Involving Two Houses in S.E.

 

At approximately 1:00 this afternoon the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 1000 block of 8 Street S.E.  A large volume of black smoke was observed by responding apparatus enroute to the incident.  Upon arrival crews discovered a detached bungalow fully involved with fire and extension to an adjacent detached two storey house.  Twelve occupants from the two houses were accounted for.  Fire crews rescued a per cat in safe condition, whose care was transferred to its owner.   A Second alarm was called for additional resources due to the volume of fire present, the number of homes and residents involved.  No injuries were reported.  The occupants will not be returning to their homes and have alternate accommodations arranged.  Fire crews utilized salvage covers to protect the residents’ personal belongings and furnishings.  Both homes received extensive fire damage.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  8 Street S.E. has been reopened to traffic in both directions.
