Calgary Fire Department Responds to a Fast Moving Grass Fire

This afternoon at approximately 16:00, The Calgary Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the South East corner of Fish Creek Park. Due to the sustained winds and tinder dry conditions the fire was able to grow substantially in size very rapidly. Fire crews were able to set up a perimeter to protect the adjacent homes and with the assistance of Sustainable Resource Development crews, including 3 helicopters, 2 with water dropping capabilities, control of the fire happened quickly. Quick work also by AHS, CPS, Conservation officers and the public allowed this incident to be brought to a safe conclusion. There were no reports of injuries or damage to adjacent homes. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
