Calgary Fire Department responds to 2 alarm structure fire in NE

Just after 7:00 PM this evening Calgary 9-1-1 received a report of an outside fire behind a strip mall just off McKnight Blvd and Falconridge Blvd NE.

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) was dispatched and on arrival determined that the outside fire had spread to the structure. Due to the type of construction and the business types occupying the structure, a second alarm was called to ensure the correct number of resources were on scene. Fire crews worked quickly to extinguish the exterior fire, control the spread of fire in the structure and ensure there were no occupants in any of the businesses. There is extensive damage to one section of the exterior of the strip mall, with smoke and some water damage to the interior businesses.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) were on standby, but no injuries were reported. Due to the time of day and the day of the week no occupants were in the building at the time of the fire. Calgary Police Services were also on scene to assist with security and scene safety.

Enmax and Atco were on scene to control the flow of utilities. The Calgary Fire Department Investigator was also on scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. At this time the cause is still under investigation.
