Calgary Fire Department Responds to 2 Alarm Garage Fire

The Calgary Fire Department Responds to 2 Alarm Fire

Shortly before noon today The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of a structure fire in a garage. Fire crews arrived to find a detached garage fully involved in smoke and fire. Due to the size of the fire and proximity of surrounding homes a second alarm was called to ensure proper resources were on scene for search and evacuation purposes.

An aerial fire stream was used to keep the fire from spreading further then the source home and garage, however some fire damage was sustained on the homes on either side of the source home. Three occupants will be displaced from the source home but the neighboring residents will be able to return to their homes after a temporary evacuation.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) assessed two occupants but did not transport either of them. The family had a pet cat and a dog, the dog was safely evacuated but the cat is still missing but not believed to be in the home.

ATCO and Enmax were on scene to assist with controlling utilities, the Calgary Fire Department Investigator is also on scene working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

Fire crews will also remain on scene to ensure there is no further extension or heat left in the fire.
