Calgary Fire Department Responds to House Fire in Bowness

At approximately 11:30 PM on Sunday November 28th, 2021 the Calgary Fire Department responded to a 911 call for a house fire in the 4300 block of 75th Street in the northwest community of Bowness. On arrival crews found smoke pushing from the lower windows of an 8-plex suite with occupants evacuating. Crews immediately deployed hose lines to the house and attempted entry. Firefighters located an occupant at the window and were able to remove them from the dwelling through the window. A second occupant was able to self-evacuate with lacerations to the hands from the broken window.

Firefighters quickly attacked the fire from the outside and then moved to the inside to gain control and extinguish the fire. Entry to the occupancy was challenging due to debris in the way of the door. Once the fire was under control, crews searched and evacuated the other 7 suites in the building. Damage was limited to the suite of origin. All other suites have been cleared and reoccupied. Both occupants of the suite were assessed by AHS, with one male occupant being transported to hospital. Firefighters remain on scene to extinguish hot spots and assist investigators.

The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
